‘Clean and Green Village Mission’, an initiative of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was launched by Jadav Payeng at Torajan village in Tinsukia district on Monday.
Torajan is among 33 villages in as many districts where the Mission is going to be launched with an objective of making Assam one of the cleanest states of India.
“I have seen people coming to Assam just to enjoy the natural surroundings present here,” Payeng said.
When asked about the challenges for the initiative, Payeng said, “We just have to motivate people and try to make them understand the importance of a clean and green environment, rest will follow.”
“Whenever I go to a village, I make it a point to visit the schools and try to teach the students first about the subject of nature,” added Payeng.
(Payeng is called the ‘Forest Man of India’, a name which he got after he created his own forest of about 1,360 acres in Assam’s Jorhat district. He attended the 1ST ‘Northeast Green Summit 2016’ as a Guest of Honour and shared his experiences. He is also likely to attend the 3rd Northeast Green Summit 2018 in Shillong.)
