For an economy like India, biotechnology is a powerful enabling technology that can revolutionize agriculture, healthcare, industrial processing and environmental sustainability. Promotion of the Indian biotechnology sector in rural India is one of the policy agenda of the Government of India. Biotechnology has been recognized as one of the key priority sectors under the ‘Make in India’, ‘Skill India’ and ‘Startup India’ initiative of the Government of India, being one of the few sectors on strong growth trajectory to drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities.

The North East Region (NER) of India has been identified as one of the biodiversity hotspots of the world. Rich bioresources spread across NER’s diverse ecosystems and nurtured by indigenous communities, provide ample opportunities for furthering economic development of the region. In order to give focused attention for the North Eastern Region, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, has earmarked 10% of its annual budget every year for promoting and strengthening biotechnology activities in the region. In similar line, the DBT has also established a North Eastern Biotechnology Programme Management Cell (NER-BPMC).
There are different Research institutes, Colleges, Universities etc. which also comprises of Biotech Hubs to promote R&D sector of the region. In this summit DBT, DST, NRDC, IBSL, ILS, IASST, different Universities, along with other educational and research institutes can meet, discuss, brainstorm and plan for further development of this sector for NER.
North East Green Summit Expo is organized to provide a platform to showcase product, inventions, technologies for potential buyers, partners, investors etc. NEGreen Summit Expo 2022 will provide a common platform to connect investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, researchers, industry leaders, manufacturers, bio-incubators, regulators and government officials. It will showcase startup product technologies in various fields including healthcare, agriculture, clean energy, biopharma, industrial biotechnology, waste-to-value as well as any product/idea related to the themes of the event.
